Ho, September 2026

The Volta Region is positioning itself as an emerging destination for industrial investment, with plans to establish a Free Zone Industrial Park to support manufacturing, exports and job creation. This was disclosed at the Volta Economic Forum 2026, held in Ho on Wednesday, 23 September 2026, under the theme, “From Opportunity Showcase to Investment Execution.” The Forum was held as part of this year’s Te Za (Yam Festival) celebration under the leadership of Togbe Afede XIV, Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State, and aimed to move beyond showcasing the Region’s economic potential to converting opportunities into concrete investments, businesses and jobs.

In his address, Togbe Afede XIV indicated that there are plans to construct a seaport at Keta and expand the Ho Airport to facilitate the movement of goods and enhance the Region’s export potential.

A major highlight of the Forum was the disclosure by the Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, that 1,500 acres of secured land at Adaklu had been earmarked for the development of a 24-Hour Industrial Park. The Ghana Export-Import (EXIM) Bank has provided funding for a feasibility study towards developing the park as a Free Zone Industrial Park.

The proposed development is expected to provide a platform for industrial activities, strengthen the Region’s capacity to attract investment, promote value addition and create employment opportunities. It forms part of broader efforts to transform the Volta Region’s economic potential into sustainable industrial and commercial activity.

Representing the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Free Zones Authority (GFZA), Dr. Mary Awusi, the Director of Corporate Affairs, PR and Aftercare, Dr. Patience Agbleze Acorlor, participated in a panel discussion on opportunities for industrial development in the Region. She provided an overview of the Free Zones Scheme and highlighted how businesses in the Volta Region could leverage the Scheme to expand production, increase exports and contribute to industrialisation. She also noted that seven Free Zones enterprises are currently operating in the Region and encouraged businesses to consider expanding their production base under the Scheme.

Discussions at the Forum also highlighted the importance of collaboration among government, traditional authorities, investors and other stakeholders in creating the infrastructure and enabling environment required to attract and sustain investment.

The Volta Economic Forum brought together traditional leaders, government officials, heads of institutions, investors and other stakeholders to explore practical opportunities for economic development in the Region. GFZA’s participation reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to investment promotion, industrialisation, export development and value addition.
