The maiden Eastern Region Trade, Tourism and Investment Fair – Eastern Expo 2026 was organized by the Eastern Regional Coordinating Council (ERCC) under the theme “Unlocking Opportunities for Sustainable Trade, Tourism and Investment.” The opening ceremony was held on 28th September 2026 in Koforidua.
The Expo brought together government officials, traditional leaders, businesses and other stakeholders, including Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) from across the Eastern Region, to explore opportunities in trade, tourism, investment and business development. The programme was chaired by the Omanhene (Paramount Chief) of the Kwahu Traditional Area, Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II.
Hon. Sampson Ahi, Deputy Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry and Special Guest of Honour, represented the Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare. In his remarks, he emphasized the need for the Eastern Region to move beyond showcasing its resources and focus on converting its economic potential into jobs, investment and increased revenue. He noted that the Region had attracted 44 wholly Ghanaian-owned projects valued at more than US$1.9 billion between 1994 and December 2025.
Representing the Ghana Free Zones Authority (GFZA), Hon. Albert Tetteh Nyakotey, a member of the GFZA Board and Member of Parliament for Yilo Krobo Constituency, delivered a speech on behalf of the Authority, highlighting the Eastern Region’s potential in agriculture, manufacturing, commerce and tourism, as well as the need for value addition, processing and export-oriented production. He cited HPW Fresh & Dry Limited, Fairafric Ghana Limited, Oro Oil (Ghana) Limited and J.M. Addo and Sons Pharmaceuticals Ltd. as examples of Free Zones Enterprises operating in the Region and highlighted opportunities available to local businesses through the Free Zones Scheme. He was accompanied by Mr. Hamidu Sibiri Musah, Deputy CEO (Finance & Administration), and Ms. Anita Novi Quashie, Director, Marketing and Investment Promotion.
Other dignitaries present included Mr. Augustus Goosie Tannoh, Presidential Adviser on the 24-Hour Economy and Accelerated Export Development Programme, who represented the President, H.E. John Dramani Mahama; Mr. Seth Terkper, Presidential Adviser on the Economy; Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie, Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts; and Hon. Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, Eastern Regional Minister.
The Authority reaffirmed its commitment to supporting investors and businesses through information, facilitation, and aftercare to promote investment, expand export-oriented production, and contribute to sustainable economic development.
