Early Action, Better Outcomes: Prioritising Breast Cancer Awareness at GFZA

On 10th October 2026, we organised a breast cancer awareness programme for management and staff of the Ghana Free Zones Authority (GFZA) at our Head Office in Accra to promote health education, early detection and preventive healthcare.

I believe that a healthy and productive workforce begins with prioritising the wellbeing of our people. I therefore encourage all staff, particularly women, to be proactive about their health, pay attention to changes in their bodies, undergo regular screenings and seek medical attention promptly when necessary.

The programme featured an inspiring testimony from breast cancer survivor Sambou Raissa, who shared her journey through diagnosis, treatment and recovery, highlighting the importance of early detection, resilience and support. A medical team from the International Maritime Hospital (IMaH), led by Dr. Yaa Akyaa Boateng, also educated participants on breast cancer risk factors, warning signs and available screening options.

I urge everyone to take the message of early detection beyond the workplace and share it with their families, friends and communities. At GFZA, we recognise that investing in employee wellbeing goes beyond productivity; it is about fostering a culture of prevention, awareness and care.
