The 3rd edition of the China–West Africa Medical & Health Industry and AI Diagnosis & Project Cooperation Summit & Expo was officially launched on Tuesday, 21st July 2026, at the Ministry of Health Conference Room in Accra.
Organized by the Health Community of West Africa (HCOWA) in partnership with the Ministry of Health, the Summit and Expo will be held from 19th to 21st August 2026. The event is expected to bring together more than 300 health sector enterprises and thousands of healthcare professionals under the theme, “Strengthening China–West Africa Health Partnerships Through Innovation, Investment, Technology and Sustainable Healthcare Development.”
The summit aims to transform healthcare across the West African sub-region by leveraging China’s expertise in medicine, technology, and artificial intelligence (AI), while facilitating knowledge transfer and collaboration with healthcare institutions and professionals in Ghana.
The President of HCOWA, Madam Shong Jiang, stated that Ghana was selected as the headquarters of HCOWA and the host country for the summit because it serves as the gateway to Africa. She explained that the vision is to position Ghana as a regional hub for medical technology and pharmaceutical production. She therefore expressed her profound gratitude to the Government of Ghana for its continued support and encouraged more stakeholders to participate in making the 2026 summit a success.
Delivering the keynote address on behalf of the Minister of Health, Dr. Hafez Adam Tamer, Director of Technical Coordination at the Ministry of Health, noted that the Government of Ghana remains committed to building strategic partnerships to advance healthcare reform. He emphasised that Ghana could not afford to be a spectator in the rapidly evolving health and AI landscape, citing the launch of flagship initiatives such as the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (Mahama Cares) and the rollout of Free Primary Healthcare for all Ghanaians as clear demonstrations of the Government’s commitment to improving healthcare delivery.
It is envisaged that companies from China will set up factories to produce medical equipment and pharmaceutical companies in Ghana to serve the other African countries using the Africa Continental Free Trade Notable attendees at the press launch included a representative of the Greater Accra Regional Minister, as well as representatives from the Ghana Free Zones Authority, Ghana Health Service, National Health Insurance Authority, Ghana Investment Promotion Centre and members of the diplomatic community.
The delegation from the Ghana Free Zones Authority was led by the Director of Corporate Affairs, PR & Aftercare, Dr. Patience Agbleze Acorlor, and included the Senior Manager of Corporate Affairs, Mr. Bilal Muazu Sulemana; Senior Marketing Officer, Mr. Conrad Atanga; and other officers from the Corporate Affairs, PR & Aftercare Department.
