Tema Export Processing Zone, July 2026
On 17th July 2026, the Director of the Ghana Free Zones Authority (GFZA) Tema Office, Mr. Edward Adu-Ntiamoah, led a delegation to witness the operationalisation of the Fire Station constructed by LMI Holdings.
The station was officially opened for operations by representatives of LMI Holdings, the Greater Accra Regional Fire Officer, ACFO I Patrick Salla, and the Tema District Fire Officer, Chief Biney. They explained that although the facility is yet to be formally commissioned, it has commenced operations and is already providing fire prevention, firefighting, rescue and emergency response services to companies operating within the Tema Free Zone Enclave.
The officers noted that the operationalisation of the station would significantly enhance emergency preparedness, improve response times to fire incidents, and strengthen the protection of lives, property and investments within the enclave. They added that the station would also support regular fire safety education, inspections and emergency preparedness initiatives to improve safety standards across the Zone.
The commencement of operations fulfils a commitment made by the Chief Fire Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), Madam Daniella Mawusi Ntow Sapong, to the Chief Executive Officer of the GFZA, Dr. Mary Awusi, following the recent fire incident at the Melcom warehouse in the Tema Export Processing Zone. During her visit to the affected facility, Dr. Awusi appealed for the deployment of a fire tender within the enclave to ensure faster emergency response and strengthen fire safety for businesses operating in the Zone.
Speaking on behalf of the Authority, Mr. Adu-Ntiamoah expressed appreciation to the Ghana National Fire Service and LMI Holdings for their collaboration and commitment to enhancing safety within the Tema Free Zone Enclave. He commended the Ghana National Fire Service for operationalising the station ahead of its official commissioning, describing the initiative as a significant milestone in safeguarding businesses and investments within the enclave.
He reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to working closely with the GNSF and other stakeholders to promote effective emergency preparedness, strengthen fire prevention measures and ensure a safe and secure environment for all Free Zone Enterprises.
The ceremony concluded with a parade by 40 fire officers deployed to the station, who demonstrated their operational readiness through a brief drill, bringing the event to a successful close.
