GFZA hosts MIDA Delegation

A delegation from the Malaysia Investment Development Authority (MIDA), led by H.E. Syed Nauzer Idid, High Commissioner of Malaysia to Ghana, paid a courtesy call on the Ghana Free Zones Authority (GFZA) on Thursday, 29th January 2026.

The meeting formed part of a follow-up to an earlier engagement involving MIDA, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), GFZA, and other stakeholders at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Agribusiness (MoTAI).

The visit aimed to discuss challenges faced by GFZA in its investment promotion activities, which will inform MIDA and JICA in the development of targeted training modules to enhance the capacity of GFZA staff. The delegation also included executives from Techaira, an IT software company exploring the possibility of becoming a Free Zones Enterprise.

Receiving the delegation on behalf of the Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Mary Awusi, the Deputy Chief Executive Officer for Operations, Mr. Lateef Apau Wiredu, expressed appreciation to the High Commission and MIDA for the visit and reaffirmed GFZA’s commitment to fostering partnerships that promote sustainable investment. He provided an overview of the Free Zones concept and highlighted the Authority’s objectives in facilitating export-oriented industrial development.

The Director of Corporate Affairs, Public Relations, and Aftercare, Dr. Patience Agbleze Acorlor, delivered a comprehensive presentation on GFZA’s operations, highlighting its investment incentives and entry requirements, emphasizing the supportive business environment and the competitive advantages it offers to export-oriented investors.

Discussions further centered on capacity building and knowledge exchange between MIDA and GFZA, with particular emphasis on investment facilitation, aftercare, data collection and analysis, enclave development, and the transition to Special Economic Zones. Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation and agreed to sustain engagement towards achieving concrete outcomes.

Also present at the meeting were other officials of GFZA, including Mr. Michael Larbi, Head of Compliance; Mr. Benjamin Obeng, Head of Estates, Zones and Applications; as well as a representative from JICA, Ms. Umme Aime Siddiqi.
