The Ghana Free Zones Authority (GFZA) was honoured to host His Excellency Mr. Daniel Mahongo, High Commissioner of the Republic of Zambia to Ghana, and his delegation at the Authority’s Head Office in Accra on Tuesday, 2nd December 2025.
The delegation was received by Mr. Hamidu Sibiri Musah, Deputy CEO (Finance & Administration), on behalf of the CEO, Dr. Mary Awusi. In his opening remarks, Mr. Musah highlighted the GFZA’s commitment to strengthening partnerships with sister agencies across the sub-region to boost intra African trade. He referenced the recent visit by officials of the Zambia Development Agency (ZDA) and noted that the current engagement further deepens the growing collaboration between the two institutions.

The meeting focused on advancing cooperation, sharing institutional best practices, and exploring opportunities for knowledge exchange between the GFZA and Zambia. Delivering a presentation, Ms. Anita Quashie, Director of Marketing and Investment Promotion, outlined the GFZA’s incentive regime, which has been instrumental in Ghana’s export-led growth. She also touched on the organizational and regulatory frameworks supporting Ghana’s Free Zones Scheme, operational best practices driving rapid industrial expansion, and key lessons in investment promotion, compliance, and enterprise support.

H.E. Mr. Daniel Mahongo reaffirmed Zambia’s strong interest in strengthening its Free Zones framework and broader industrial development ecosystem. He commended the GFZA for its significant role in Ghana’s industrial and economic progress and emphasized Zambia’s desire to draw valuable lessons from Ghana’s successful Free Zones model.
Mr. Lateef Apau Wiredu, Deputy CEO (Operations), provided an overview of the operational structure of the Authority and the internal strategies adopted to ensure efficient management of the Scheme without placing undue financial pressure on the central government. Directors from various departments also engaged with the High Commissioner’s delegation, responding to questions and providing further insights into the Authority’s operations.

Both parties acknowledged the cordial relations between Ghana and Zambia and reaffirmed their shared commitment to enhancing collaboration for mutual economic benefit. Discussions included the possibility of developing a future Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to formalize cooperation and strengthen collaboration between the GFZA and ZDA in support of intra-African trade.
