The purpose of the two-day visit was to strengthen relationships with Free Zone Enterprises (FZEs) in the region, familiarize the team with their operations, and inspect the proposed site for the Ashanti Technological Park in Boankra.

The delegation’s first stop was at the Tech Park site, followed by a visit to Premium Foods Ghana Ltd., a licensed FZE that exports cereals and supplies to international organizations such as the World Food Programme and USAID. Dr. Awusi expressed GFZA’s support for the company and encouraged them to utilize the Aftercare Desk for any concerns, highlighting the promise of future business expos for increased visibility.

The tour proceeded to MIRO Forestry and Timber Products in Drobonso, where Dr. Awusi commended the company’s corporate social responsibility initiatives, including the construction of school blocks and the provision of boreholes. She also reminded all FZEs of the requirement to display GFZA-branded billboards.

On April 4, the visit continued at Logs and Lumber, focusing on issues like import taxes and the transition to Special Economic Zones (SEZs). The Managing Director noted significant growth under the FZE scheme. Finally, the team visited OLAM Ghana, where discussions centered on enhancing cocoa processing and job creation. Dr. Awusi reaffirmed GFZA’s commitment to supporting FZEs and maintaining an open-door policy.
