The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Free Zones Authority (GFZA), Dr. Mary Awusi, participated in the participated in a series of high-level investment, trade and economic engagements at the inaugural Alamein Africa Forum, held in Alamein, Egypt, from 2nd–4th October 2026.
Established under the mandate of the African Union, the Forum was co-organized by the Government of Egypt, Afreximbank, the African Union Commission (AUC), AUDA-NEPAD and the African Development Bank (AfDB). It brought together African leaders, policymakers and private-sector stakeholders to advance investment, trade, industrialization and economic cooperation across the continent. Ghana’s participation focused on positioning the country as a strategic gateway for investment, trade and industrial development, while strengthening commercial relations with Egypt and other African markets.



Addressing the Health Plenary, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana, called for greater investment in healthcare, particularly local pharmaceutical manufacturing, regional value chains and health innovation, to strengthen Africa’s health sovereignty, create high-value jobs and reduce dependence on imported medicines.
As part of Ghana’s investment promotion engagements, the Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare (MP), held discussions with Dr. Sherif El Gabaly, Chairman of the African Cooperation Committee of the Federation of Egyptian Industries, and Egyptian business representatives from the pharmaceutical, agro-processing, textiles and apparel, information technology and construction sectors. The meeting explored investment opportunities, partnerships and avenues for deepening Ghana–Egypt commercial relations.



The Minister for Communication, Hon. Samuel Nartey George, also highlighted opportunities for Egyptian investment in Ghana’s FinTech and Artificial Intelligence (AI) sectors, with emphasis on technology transfer and innovation-driven growth.
A key feature of Ghana’s participation was the dedicated Ghana stand, jointly managed by GFZA, the Ghana Investment Promotion Authority (GIPA), the Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA) and the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry (MOTAI). President Mahama visited the stand, where Dr. Mary Awusi briefed him on GFZA’s participation and the investment opportunities, products and services showcased to prospective investors and business partners.
GFZA’s participation reinforced its commitment to positioning Ghana as a competitive investment destination and gateway to the African market, with particular emphasis on attracting export-oriented investments into the Free Zones and promoting the products and services of licensed enterprises internationally.
