GFZA ENGAGES GERMAN DELEGATION ON TRADE AND INVESTMENT

The Ghana Free Zones Authority (GFZA) joined other key state institutions at a Business Roundtable hosted by the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) to engage a high-level German delegation led by Dr. Thomas Steffen, Secretary of State at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy.

Held alongside the State Visit of German President H.E. Frank-Walter Steinmeier to Ghana, the engagement focused on exploring new areas of partnership and investment in trade, energy, health, and Ghana’s overall business environment.

In her remarks, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu Adjare, Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, underscored Ghana’s strong economic ties with Germany and the Government’s commitment to accelerating industrial growth through its transformation agenda.

She highlighted key initiatives such as the 24H+ Programme, which seeks to expand industrial capacity and strengthen agribusiness value chains. The Minister also noted that her Ministry has established a Business Regulatory Reform (BRR) Desk to simplify compliance processes, enhance transparency, and make it easier for businesses to operate in Ghana.

She further observed that Ghana’s improving macroeconomic indicators including reductions in inflation and debt levels have boosted investor confidence and reinforced business growth. The Minister assured the German investors of her Ministry’s dedication to engaging stakeholders to address business challenges in a timely and transparent manner.

Dr. Thomas Steffen commended Ghana’s strong democratic governance and stable political climate, noting that these qualities make the country a preferred destination for trade and investment in the region. He reaffirmed Germany’s commitment under the Compact with Africa initiative to support Ghana’s private sector and promote deeper economic cooperation.

Representing the Ghana Free Zones Authority, Chief Executive Officer Dr. Mary Awusi expressed appreciation to the German business delegation and Ghanaian partners for their participation and commitment to strengthening Ghana–Germany relations. She reiterated the Authority’s readiness to facilitate investments in key sectors such as manufacturing, agribusiness, and renewable energy, and encouraged sustained collaboration to build enduring economic partnerships.

Other participating institutions included the Ghana Export Promotion Authority, represented by Deputy CEO Mr. Rashid Raymond Kramer; the Association of Ghana Industries, represented by Vice President Mrs. Grace Amey-Obeng; and the Ghana Revenue Authority (Customs Division), represented by Head of Operations Mr. Joseph Adu-Kyei.

The meeting concluded with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Germany Africa Business Alliance and the Association of Ghana Industries to strengthen trade and investment collaboration between Ghana and Germany.
