The Ghana Free Zones Authority (GFZA) hosted a high-level Japanese business delegation at the Tema Export Processing Zone as part of ongoing efforts to showcase Ghana’s investment potential under the Free Zones Scheme and to strengthen bilateral economic and trade relations between Ghana and Japan.



The delegation was led by Dr. Kunimitsu Ayano, Japanese State Minister for Foreign Affairs, and included H.E. Yoshimoto Hiroshi, Japanese Ambassador to Ghana, senior government officials, Japanese business executives, and other key stakeholders.
In his welcome remarks, the Deputy Chief Executive Officer (Operations), Mr. Lateef Apau Wiredu, speaking on behalf of the Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Mary Awusi, reaffirmed the GFZA’s commitment to fostering an enabling environment for foreign investment.



He highlighted the strategic importance of trade and investment cooperation, technology transfer, and the development of mutually beneficial partnerships between Ghana and Japan. The Director of Marketing & Investment Promotion, Ms. Anita Quashie, delivered a detailed presentation on the Free Zones Scheme with placed particular emphasis on opportunities available at the Afienya Export Processing Zone.
Dr. Kunimitsu Ayano expressed gratitude to the GFZA for the warm reception and commended Ghana’s potential as a strategic investment destination for Japanese businesses.
The engagement was attended by Directors and Senior Management of the GFZA, underscoring the Authority’s strong institutional support for international investment promotion initiatives.
Meanwhile, the previous day, the Deputy Chief Executive Officer (Operations) and the Director of Marketing & Investment Promotion represented the GFZA at the Ghana–Japan Business Forum, organized as part of activities marking the visit of the Japanese business delegation to explore trade and investment opportunities in Ghana.
The forum featured a keynote address by Hon. Sampson Ahi (MP), Deputy Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry (MoTAI), who emphasized Ghana’s readiness for business partnerships with Japan.
He underscored the importance of investor certainty, clear regulatory frameworks, predictable timelines, and reliable infrastructure, reaffirming Ghana’s commitment to promoting value-added investments and job creation.


The GFZA officials also participated in a business-to-business matchmaking session, which provided further opportunities to deepen engagement with the Japanese business executives.
