On March 20, 2025, representatives from the Ghana Free Zones Authority (GFZA), led by Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr. Mary Awusi, paid a courtesy call to His Eminence, the National Chief Imam Sheikh Dr. Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, at his office in Fadama, Accra.
The purpose of the visit was to strengthen the existing relationship between the GFZA and the office of the National Chief Imam, seek his blessings, and extend a gesture of goodwill through donations, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan. Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar when Muslims worldwide intensify acts of worship through fasting, prayer, spiritual reflection, sacrifices, and fostering communal relationships. The Holy Quran enjoins Muslims to fast during Ramadan, stating unequivocally in Chapter 2, Verse 183: “O Believers, fasting is enjoined upon you as it was enjoined upon those before you, that you may become God-fearing.”
In her opening remarks, Dr. Mary Awusi expressed her profound admiration for the Chief Imam, describing him as a source of inspiration. She explained that the visit was not only to seek his blessings but also to contribute to his charitable efforts during Ramadan, enhancing his dedication to supporting the vulnerable and less privileged in society. The Authority donated various food items, including 20 bags of rice, 5 bags of sugar (50 kg each), and 5 gallons of oil (25 litres each). This gesture was also aimed at recognizing his significant role in promoting peace and unity within the nation amidst its diversity.
In response, His Eminence, the National Chief Imam, expressed heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Awusi and her team for their generosity. He emphasized that his doors are always open to those seeking guidance and support while proudly acknowledging Dr. Awusi’s leadership role at such a prestigious institution as the Ghana Free Zones Authority, where she serves as the first female CEO since its establishment.
While commending the Authority’s efforts to create jobs and enhance national development, the Chief Imam concluded with prayers for the leadership and staff of the Ghana Free Zones Authority, seeking Allah’s guidance and blessings for the success of their objectives.
Dr. Awusi was accompanied by several key officials, including Mr. Musah Sibri Hamidu (Deputy CEO, Finance and Administration), Mr. Apau Wiredu Lateef (Deputy CEO, Operations), Mr. Ziblim Alhassan (Director of Administration), Hajia Hanatu Abubakar-Bimi (Director of Business Development & Research, AfCFTA, Agribusiness, and Strategic Partnerships), Kausara Toure Abdul-Latif (Officer), Imam Tamim Mohammed Amin, and other officers.
